Lectures/demonstrations

Each year a Club member volunteers to serve as the Program Committee Chair to identify speakers/presentations for the monthly club general meetings.  As this year’s committee chair, Trish Johnson has organized a great series of speakers/presentations. Now that we are nearing the beginning of our calendar year, we have the following events to enjoy:

  • Wednesday, June 13, 2012:  The end-of-the-year June Picnic, May Faire & Annual Meeting will be held begining at 11:30 am in the Bear Valley picnic area.  Due to the necessary repairs to the elevator at the Inverness Yacht Club in May, the Annual Luncheon and May Faire flower arangement competition were postponed to the final meeting of the year, the June picnic on June 13.   Margaret  Hansen and Maidee Moore would like to encourage Garden Club members to contribute an unique floral creation to the annual flower exhibition.  Put on your creative hats on and create a surprising entry that is either small, medium or large, miniature or a container grouping.  A gift certificate will be awarded to the most creative entry.  The picnic will be a pot luck - more specifics to follow very soon.

There is always something new to learn in gardening.  IGC periodically holds gardening workshops for members and the community at large.  Ideas for workshops evolve from member input.  Past workshops have focused on spring pruning, fruit grafting techniques and building a worm box.  Upcoming workshops will be listed here.

Tours

Be it a visit to a public garden, a museum special exhibit, or a private garden habitat for honey bees – IGC plans a wide range of tours for members and friends.  These day trips within the San Francisco Bay area offer a chance to leave the garden for a day and be inspired by the creativity of artists in the plant world and beyond.  Upcoming workshops will be listed here.

Inverness Fair

The Inverness Fair is a longstanding summer tradition for people of all ages.  Set on the Inverness village green, it is a daylong celebration with a pancake breakfast, live music, a library book sale, games and crafts.   A much anticipated event at the fair is the IGC Scholarship Flea Market where eager shoppers line up to peruse the always eclectic offerings.  For sustenance, the club also sponsors a bake sale with homemade preserves and desserts.  Staffed by members, these events provide funds for ongoing club operation and the IGC Scholarship Fund.
