Awards and PaymentsAwards and Payments

Each complete application packet is reviewed independently by all members of the Fund to determine eligibility and completeness.

Applicants will be notified of their status in early May. Payment is contingent on receipt of documentation of satisfactory completion of units and grades. The high schools of graduating seniors will be notified of their awards.

Amounts:

The amount of a scholarship will depend upon the student's need, the number of qualified applicants and the funds available for the year.

In 2012, the following scholarship levels are available:

  • College Scholarships: Horticultural Scholarship                            $5,000
  • College or University (12+ units/quarter; 15+/semester)               $3000 and up
  • Junior College –full time (12-15 units)                                           $2000 minimum
  • Junior College-part time (9 –11 units)                                           $1500 minimum

Continuing endowed scholarships (such as the Baxter, Dettner, Flagg and Kroninger Awards) and certain annual scholarships supported by major donors (Blitzer and Xenry) are given to exceptional candidates.

Payments:

Scholarships are paid directly to the student in two or three installments, following the pattern of the school's semesters or quarters (see Calendar on next page).

If a student drops a course and completes less than 12 units in a session he/she will not qualify for the second session installment of the scholarship. It is the student's responsibility to notify the Fund of any changes which could affect scholarship eligibility.
